Unobtainable Land Rover parts: how 3D printing saves your vehicle

Are you looking for a plastic part for your Land Rover Defender, Discovery, or Range Rover Classic and have exhausted all the usual channels—importers, specialized scrapyards, forums—without success? Local 3D printing is becoming the most reliable answer for classic 4x4 owners in Europe.

The problem with plastic parts on older generation Land Rovers

Land Rovers produced before the 2000s—Defender 90/110, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover Classic, P38—are exceptional vehicles that are still highly cherished. However, Land Rover gradually stopped producing plastic trim, interior, and body parts for these generations. Dealer stock has long been depleted. Used parts are often in the same degraded condition as your own.

The result: for a door handle, a hinge cover, or a panel clip, there is sometimes no commercial solution available.

What 3D printing can reproduce

3D printing is not suitable for critical mechanical parts (crankshaft seals, bearings, hydraulic parts). But for all plastic, trim, and non-mechanical structural parts, it is a revolution:

  • Interior and exterior door handles
  • Headlight covers, air vents, panel clips, and brackets
  • Button surrounds, control panels, window levers
  • Gear shift or handbrake boots (in TPU)
  • Hatch seals and hinge covers (in TPU)
  • Sun visor clips, headliner clips

PETG, ABS, or TPU: the right material for each Land Rover part

  • ABS: handles, levers, mechanical parts requiring rigidity and impact resistance.
  • PETG: exterior parts exposed to UV, under-hood parts or cabin parts subjected to heat (up to 80°C).
  • TPU: bellows, seals, flexible covers, parts requiring flexibility without tearing—typically gear lever boots on Defenders or headlight hatch seals on Range Rover Classics.

Custom parts: send a photo, we reproduce

If your part is not yet in our catalog, use our custom manufacturing request form. Send a photo of the broken part (with a coin for scale) and dimensions if you know them. We review all requests and get back to you within 24 hours with a quote.

We have already reproduced hundreds of parts for Defender 90/110, Discovery 1 and 2, Range Rover Classic, and P38 at the request of owners in France and Europe.

Frequently asked questions

What is the lead time for a custom part not found in your catalog?

The standard lead time for a custom part is 5 to 7 business days after design validation. For complex parts requiring multiple iterations, allow 10 to 15 days. We will keep you informed at every step.

Is the quality comparable to an original part?

For plastic trim and structural parts, the quality is equivalent to or superior to the original—industrial PETG and ABS materials have well-documented mechanical properties. For critical functional parts (safety, hydraulics), we do not recommend 3D printing.

Do you deliver outside of France?

Yes, we deliver throughout Europe (Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, United Kingdom, etc.). Delivery times vary depending on the destination. Contact us for an international shipping quote.
